Light Bulb Craft Ideas

by Victor Bryant

When a light bulb has burnt out, save it for future craft projects rather than throwing it into the garbage. Not only are light bulb crafts good for the environment, they'll help you save money as well. You can recycle light bulbs into a variety of kids crafts and even party and home decor items.

Light bulb crafts make ideal kids party activities, so gather up a few before the celebration. They will also come in handy as creative and personalized birthday and holiday gifts.

Here are some light bulb craft ideas to consider:

Kids Crafts

1. Whimsical Bees

Transform used light bulbs into charming bug crafts, which make ideal summer party favors. To make a bee, use acrylic paint and a small brush to create alternating yellow and black stripes around the bulb. Paint the metal bottom portion of the bulb black and allow it to thoroughly dry.

Next, use a hot glue gun to apply two plastic googly eyes to the bottom of the bulb as the insect's face. Curl two thin strips of black construction paper into antennae and glue them above the eyes.

Finally, bend two black or white pipe cleaners into oval shapes and glue them to the middle of the bee as wings.

2. Snowmen Ornaments

Get into the holiday spirit with your kids by turning a white light bulb into an adorable snowman ornament. Right under the metal portion of the bulb, which will act as the snowman's hat, use a black permanent marker to draw two eyes. Next, create a mouth and three buttons using the black marker. Draw on a carrot-shaped nose using an orange marker.

Complete the craft by gluing on two small twigs as arms and tying a piece of twine into a loop at the top for hanging.

Home and Party Decor

1. Vases

Create one-of-a-kind vases, which you can use as dinner or party table centerpieces, by taking the metal top of a regular-size bulb off and filling the item with a few small pebbles or colorful rocks, which will allow it to sit on a flat surface. Then, fill the 3/4 of the bulb with water.

Cut or drill a hole in the top of the metal portion and screw it back onto the top of the bulb. Insert small flowers or leafy stems into the vase and set it in the center of a table. You can place several of the vases down the center of the table for the biggest visual impact.

2. Treat Holders

Add a creative pop of color to a party table by using light bulbs to hold vibrant edible treats, such as candy-coated sunflower seeds or almonds. Place one goody-filled bulb at each guests' place setting and have them take them home as favors. Contact a company like Pacific Lamp Wholesale Inc for more info.

About Me

Conserving Energy For A Better Future

Hi, my name is Mark and this blog focuses on the use of energy. What we do today will have a huge impact on the energy sources of the future. Individuals can make changes to ensure that available energy sources are affordable and reliable. Families can conserve energy by using energy efficient appliances, planting trees to shade their homes and unplugging electronics when they're not being used. Individuals can also spread the word to others about the importance of conserving energy and that's why I'm writing this blog. My intention is to get the word out to as many people as possible so that together we can reduce the amount of energy that's being used today. I hope that you find my blog enlightening and that by reading my posts, you'll help to do your part too.
